When you place your content in web design, first consider the content to be inside a box.

Padding

The space between your content and the edge of that box is the padding (inside the box).

Border

The border is what delimits the box (you can also change the width of that border whether your border is visible or not).

Margin

The space between your content box border and other elements is the margin (outside the box).
